The Quinceañera Shot List: Court of Honor, Waltz and More

Gerald Photo Video

From getting ready to the last dance, here is the quinceañera shot list we walk through with every family in Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs and Des Moines.

A quinceañera shot list is the simple plan that makes sure no moment of her day is missed. A quinceañera moves fast. One moment she is fastening her earrings, the next she is stepping into the ballroom with her court behind her. The families who look back on their photos with the most joy are the ones who talked through the important moments before the day began. Here is the list we walk through with every family we photograph and film in Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs and Des Moines.

Why every family needs a quinceañera shot list

Her celebration usually runs six to eight hours, from getting ready to the last song. Within that time are dozens of moments that happen only once: the blessing at Mass, the first step of the waltz, the moment her father takes her hand. A shot list does not make the day rigid. It simply tells your photographer and videographer which people and traditions matter most to your family, so we can be in the right place before each moment begins. It also shapes your quinceañera photo timeline, because every portrait on the list needs a few minutes in the schedule.

Getting ready

The dress on its hanger, the crown and the shoes. Mom helping with the last button. A quiet portrait by the window before anyone else arrives. These are the images families tell us they treasure most years later. Ask the hair and makeup team to finish about thirty minutes before you need to leave, so there is time for these quiet portraits without rushing.

The Mass

Her walk down the aisle, the blessing, her parents and padrinos beside her. We stay discreet in church and follow the guidance of each parish, so the ceremony feels like prayer, not production. If your parish has rules about where we can stand or whether flash is allowed, let us know and we will plan around them.

Court of honor portraits

One full portrait of the whole court, then smaller groups: the damas, the chambelanes, and her chambelán de honor. Plan about fifteen minutes for this and keep the court close by so nobody wanders off before their photo. If the court includes younger siblings or cousins, we photograph them first, while their energy is still high.

The grand entrance

The doors open, the music starts and every phone goes up. We position ourselves ahead of time so we catch her face as she enters and the reaction of her family as she passes them. Ask your DJ to give us a short signal a minute before the entrance, so we are ready when the doors open.

The waltz

Wide shots that show the whole court moving together, then close moments of her expression. On film, the waltz is often the heart of the highlight, so we capture it from more than one angle. If you are booking quinceañera videography, share the song and the choreography with us ahead of time so we know where she will turn and pause.

The father daughter dance

This is the moment that brings the room to tears. We watch his face as closely as hers, because his reaction is the image families come back to again and again. If a grandfather, uncle or padrino will share the dance, tell us beforehand so we are ready for each of them.

The traditions and family portraits

The changing of the shoes, the last doll, the toast and the family portraits with grandparents. Tell us which traditions your family is keeping so nothing is missed. Send us a short list of family groupings in advance: parents, padrinos, grandparents and siblings. About twenty minutes is usually enough for a full set of family portraits.

The party and the details

The surprise dance, the cake, the dance floor full of cousins and friends. The centerpieces, the dessert table and the sign with her name, photographed before guests sit down. Then a final portrait of her, tired and happy, at the end of the night.

How photo and video work together on the shot list

When one team covers photography and film, the shot list becomes a single plan. The photographer and the videographer know where each other will stand, so neither one blocks the other during the entrance or the waltz. Your photo gallery arrives in under 72 hours and your film in about two weeks, so you can relive the day while it is still fresh. See how we cover the full day on our quinceañera photography and video page.

Quinceañera shot list questions

What should be on a quinceañera shot list?

A quinceañera shot list should include getting ready, the Mass, court of honor portraits, the grand entrance, the waltz, the father daughter dance, traditions such as the changing of the shoes and the last doll, family portraits and the party. Gerald Photo Video walks through this list with every family in Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs and Des Moines before the celebration.

How long do court of honor portraits take?

Plan about fifteen minutes for court of honor portraits. That covers one full portrait of the court and smaller groups of damas, chambelanes and the chambelán de honor. Keeping the court close by, and photographing them right after Mass or before the entrance, keeps the timeline calm and gives every member of the court a portrait their family will keep.

Do you photograph and film quinceañeras in Spanish?

Yes. Gerald Photo Video is a bilingual quinceañera photographer and videographer, so we plan the shot list with your family in English or Spanish. We serve families across Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs and Des Moines, and travel within 100 miles is included, so her celebration can be almost anywhere in Nebraska or Iowa.

When should we book our quinceañera photographer?

Book six to twelve months ahead, especially for spring and summer Saturdays, which fill first in Omaha and Des Moines. A 50% deposit reserves your date, and payment plans are available for the balance. Once you are booked, we plan the shot list and the timeline together so every tradition has its moment.
